Virginia based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kristoffer Wright began playing the saxophone at age 9. In the following years he became affluent with the saxophone family, performing on soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. He studied with Edward Fraedrich for five years and was under the direction of George Etheridge with the Levine School of Music for two years. During this time he participated in numerous all-district bands, all-state bands, jazz-bands and saxophone ensembles.
While attending James Madison University, Kristoffer left his classical roots to explore other styles of music such as Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Improvisation. He co-founded Alpine Recess, a defunct Rock band with fellow musicians Mickey Glago, Dan Hodnett, Chris Overton, and Marshall Dyer. Kristoffer began to stretch his singing and songwriting muscles with influences such as Eric Clapton, Trey Anistatio, Brad Nowell and Keller Williams. Kristoffer also co-founded Midnight Spaghetti and the Chocolate G-Strings, a 9-piece funk band, with fellow musicians Mickey Glago, Seth Casana, Dan Hodnett, Eric Petit, Rachelle LaCroix, Brian Harris, Matt Flynn, and Josh Jarvis.
In 2005, Kristoffer began teaching computer classes (yes, computer classes) onboard Princess Cruises. In the Spring he joined forces with a Trinidad & Tobago duet uniting steel drum, piano, and sax. He also teamed up with the English pianist, Benjamin "the Riot" Roberts, in 2005 and 2006. While cruising, he met and jammed with countless musicians from around the world, ever expanding his musical palette.
In late 2006, he drove to Lake Tahoe and decided to spend the Winter in the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. If he wasn't skiing, Kristoffer was jamming. The massive amounts of snow provided a perfect barricade to the outside world and spark impromptu jams in the cabin on Stockton Avenue. Improvisation was the word; mixing Acoustic Rock, Folk, Beat-boxing and Rap.
Kristoffer's style may be summed up as
a unique mix of Caribbean, Blues and Rock. He has performed at The
Building Museum, The 1996 Presidential Inauguration, The State Theater
(Falls Church, Virginia) The German Embassy in Washington D.C., and The
Nissan Pavilion. He also enjoys smaller venues such as the Green Oak
Pub in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
